As many of you know, following the fire at Olive Mediterranean Kitchen & Wine Bar on Monday 27th April, we have been carefully assessing the damage and planning the road ahead.
The fire, which our team did their utmost to control, was caused by a fryer in the kitchen but thankfully was contained to one area. However, significant damage has been caused to the kitchen and some of our essential equipment, particularly our extraction system, which now needs to be completely replaced and custom fabricated with an estimated 12-week lead time.
In addition, the smoke damage throughout the venue is extensive and specialist contract cleaners will need several weeks to restore Olive to the warm, beautiful restaurant we all know and love. We don’t do things by half, so we need to ensure we’re absolutely tip top for you all.
With this in mind, we sadly do not expect Olive to reopen in its home venue until at least July.
From day one, our greatest priority has been our incredible Olive team – ensuring their jobs remain safe and secure while continuing to bring Brixham the exciting flavours, warm hospitality and delicious wines that Olive has become known for.
Today, we are incredibly proud and excited to share the next chapter of our journey…
✨ Olive is moving to Beamers Restaurant on the Quay as a special pop-up collaboration headed by our Head Chef Alex and Olive’s kitchen and restaurant team. ✨
We are also delighted to announce that our company has purchased Beamers Restaurant with immediate effect and, with the kind support of all parties concerned, will also be purchasing the ground floor shop ULA beneath, following in September.
This means two of Brixham’s much-loved award-winning restaurants – one old and one new – will come together for a unique and limited-time experience celebrating the very best of both venues and menus.
With the support of Simone and the Beamers team, Olive and Beamers will join forces to create exciting collaborative menus, exceptional food, fine wines and unforgettable hospitality for all our guests to enjoy.
Quite simply:
❤ Beamers is helping save Olive today…
❤ And our company will help secure the future of Beamers for Brixham tomorrow.
When Olive eventually returns home, Beamers will close at the end of the season before returning in a brand-new form in 2027, including a stunning two-floor flagship restaurant overlooking our beautiful harbour.
Beamers’ incredible legacy serving Brixham for 25 years, championing fresh Brixham fish and supporting local fishermen – something Simone has always passionately stood for – will proudly continue long into the future.
With the loss of the wonderful Shoals, and potentially Beamers too, we felt the need to step in and ensure Brixham retains a wonderful independent high-quality fish restaurant on the Quay, with some exciting renovation surprises in store.
This difficult moment has certainly tested us, but from adversity comes opportunity and we truly believe this collaboration will create something very special for Brixham.
To all our loyal Olive customers, suppliers and key partners – thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, messages, patience and unwavering support during this incredibly challenging time. Your love for Olive has meant everything to us.
And to Beamers customers, we cannot wait to welcome and look after you too as these two wonderful venues come together for this exciting new chapter.
We look forward to welcoming you all to Beamers soon for our temporary amalgamation and stay. ❤
